The Queen Returns (and its 2 plaayer variant)
So here we are, launch day, and now for a little bit of a ramble about the game.
The idea of a game about the fate of a country had been kicking about in my head for a while but I had never made anything stick, that was until I played Princess With a Cursed Sword by Anna Anthropy; something clicked into place and this is where we are now. This game however ended up being as much about the queen as it did the country she ruled and I am 100% fine with that.
What i want to talk about now though is the two player variant of the game. A long time ago when i worked in an office I would sometimes have to send paperwork to a friend that worked in a different office. Somehow we ended up assuming character roles in covering letters to each other and communicating back and forth as these characters, keeping each other up to date with our fictional lives. These old letters and the current social distancing guidelines were in the forefront of my mind when I wrote the 2 player variant of this game. The two player version is perfect for our current socially distanced lives, you play by sending letters in the post to your friend and the game ends with a face to face reunion when the Queen finally returns. Of course this can be played by email or text, but there is something special about opening actual physical letters from a friend don't you think?
Anyhow I have rambled on enough at this point. If you do play thee game please do let me know how you got on, I would love to know all about your queens and the fates of their countries.
Thanks for reading and stay safe.
